Establishing a Cleaning Schedule for a Commercial Pool

In some areas, commercial pools are required to check the balance of their water daily. Even if it’s not mandatory, this is a good practice, because many commercial pools have chemicals that are out of whack. You know that strong chlorine smell you notice at the public pool? That’s not actually chlorine, it’s the chloramines that result from chlorine working. In other words, a strong chlorine smell means the pool is dirty, not clean. • Once or Twice Weekly: Brush the walls and steps, brush and vacuum the floor, check and rinse the filters and hoses, and adjust the chemicals as needed. How often you clean the pool thoroughly will depend on the number of people who use the pool. The more swimmers that use a pool, the more often it should be cleaned.
• Monthly: Perform safety inspections, making sure pool ladders, handrails, diving boards, and slides are in good shape, and checking your life preservers, first aid kits, rescue poles, and other safety equipment are all in good working order and easily accessible.
• Seasonally: Your pool maintenance routine will shift with the seasons, depending on where you live. You will need to have your pool maintenance company winterize your pool at the end of the swimming season, and open it back up in the spring.
